Canine Semen Assessments
Reassuring Semen Assessments
How?
Semen samples are first checked for volume pH and colour. We then move on to assess motility and progressive motility of the sample, then morphology of individual spermatazoa and a finally a viable ‘sperm count’ is obtained. Certificates are provided detailing our findings.
Ideally dogs should be at least 12 months of age, by which time most are sexually mature and are able to provide a good sample.
Canine semen assessments are best carried out with an in-season teaser bitch present in order to obtain the best quality sample possible.
If there are any abnormal findings, advice will be given if required.
