Yes, of course. Ideally you will also bring an ‘in-season’ bitch along with you so that your dog provides the best sample possible.
Your dog will only be required to be present at the clinic for as long as the sample takes to obtain. The susbsequent analysis will take around an hour to complete and a certificate will be emailed to your chosen contact details.
The uterus of bitches of smaller breeds can only hold around mL of fluid, this increases to 2-3mL for larger breeds. It is not so much about the volume but the concentration of normal semen that is important. A good sample will contain sperm of which 70% are forwardly motile and 90% morphologically normal.
Most dogs are sexually mature by 12 months and should provide a good sample.
